2020 promises to be a good year in gaming as we’ll be seeing the release of the next generation game consoles as well as some really notable game titles. With regard to consoles, I do want to jump back into the PlayStation ecosystem with the PS5 and skipping out on the release of the Xbox Series X. This will make it the first Sony console I will own since the PlayStation 2. In that time there have been many PlayStation titles that I have missed out on such as God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Spider-Man, with the latter being one of the games I want to play the most. Of course, it remains to be seen how far Sony will open up its games library through backwards compatibility as PS4 titles have been confirmed to work with their new console.

Getting on to the games slated to coming out, there are a few games that I will definitely be ponying up cash to get.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was intriguing even before they released the trailer featuring Keanu Reeves. Even though it has been delayed until September, I would prefer that the game come out as a finished product rather than a game that that will be require updates just to improve the playability of core functions. I hope others can agree with that point as well.

Halo Infinite

Another high profile game scheduled to come out will be Halo Infinite where we will see Master Chief once again. Thankfully I will save my $60 dollars upfront with this game since it will be available through Xbox Game Pass upon release. It will be interesting to see how the series will continue in this next installment. I hope to revisit the previous titles just to refresh my memory a bit.

Dying Light 2

It has been 6 years since we were introduced to a Dying Light but finally its sequel is getting closer to release. I thought the original game had a lot of fantastic elements to it such as the first person view which made the game scarier and giving your character parkour abilities as a means of traversing the open world. Even though vehicles were added in subsequent DLC I wouldn’t mind if they kept traveling on foot as the main method of transportation. I would also like for them to keep the online co-op that they had which made slashing through a horde of zombies or getting through tough missions much more exciting.

Doom Eternal

While not having played the first one that much, the trailer and gameplay for Doom Eternal makes this game look like an action packed FPS playground. From what I’ve seen this game takes its predecessor and multiplies it times 100. I will look forward to playing this game!

Resident Evil 3

Remakes are leaving the silver screen and are now popping up in gaming culture which so far have been successful. Modern Warfare has rejuvenated Call of Duty and Resident Evil 2 has also brought the franchise new life and Capcom is looking to hit the jackpot twice with Resident Evil 3. Now if I’m being honest, I have never really gotten into any of the games from this series. However! After hearing all the hype following RE2, I will have to give RE2 and RE3 a play through to see if the remakes are more my speed.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5

Although these games are not new, they were recently made available on the Xbox One, following the lead of Kingdom Hearts 3. This series was going to be one of the main reasons for me to buy a PlayStation as it brings back some good memories from the PS2 days. However now that they’ve finally made it for Xbox, it only makes sense to buy it for that system instead. I’m sure it will feel weird at first but I know I’ll quickly get over it.

Ghost of Tsushima

With an interesting narrative and setting, I look forward to playing this game on PlayStation. This game should make a big splash this year thanks to a fresh story and location to play in.

The Last of Us Part 2

Having previously mentioned that I missed out on many PS games, this being one of them, there is no doubt that this game will be one of the biggest games of the year. I have heard that the first game was a great game overall and I will have to play the first to really be able to appreciate playing part 2.

Well that wraps it up for my personal list of intriguing games, let’s see if I’m able to get my hands on them when they release. I’m also interested in seeing what other games people are looking forward too so let me know!
