2020 in review (It’s finally over!)

2020 was a year unlike any other in the worst possible way but there were a few good things that I can take away from it. The first and best thing to happen was the birth of my first child, a young lad named Tristan.

We were fortunate to have him before the pandemic hit the fan and were able to enjoy our first few weeks with him in peace. In the weeks that followed, with the worsening global situation, I was thankful to be in a job that allowed me to spend a lot more time at home. This was definitely the best part of the year.

After I was required to come back to work to my regular schedule, the year just silently zoomed by. It wasn’t until the Fourth of July that we left the house to be with some family members. Up to that point my wife and I had never really left the house other than going to our son’s doctor appointments.

Our birthday was the first time we took a trip as a little family even though it was only to the beach. We stayed at a hotel where we had a nice time and enjoyed a break from the routine we were in.

The holidays came and went but we managed to see some family members even though it was for a brief moment. It was a quiet New Years Eve in our house and as the countdown to 2020 hit zero there was a sense of relief.

I remember having a conversation with my mom about bringing more positivity to the new year and hoping that all the negativity that arose in 2020 would stay in 2020. I hope others can leave the negative vibes behind as well.

2020 Fun Facts

As I did last year, I had been saving information on what I consider to be fun facts. For example at the beginning of 2020 I mentioned places travelled and the number of movies watched. However this year, I never left South Florida so I expanded the entertainment category to include games and books.

Of course some movies on the list are ones that I’ve seen more than once. However a good amount of movies were either released in 2020 or I had never seen. Examples of movies I saw for the first time are: Home Alone, Top Gun, Mrs. Doubtfire and a few more.

So here is a breakdown of these stats.

  • Total movies watched: 63
    • Up from 43 in 2019
  • Favorite movie watched: The Big Short
    • Runner up: The Shawshank Redemption, 1917, Sleepless in Seattle
  • Worst movie watched: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
    • Runner up: The Theory of Everything
  • Books read: 3
    • Down from 5 in 2019
  • Best book: Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
  • Games played: 13
  • Favorite game: Doom (2016)
