2022 is well under way and things have fortunately calmed down after a hectic move into our new house. With a little more time now to think about the future, I’d like to spell out my goals for the rest of the year. I want to make a habit of putting my goals out there to help keep me accountable and on track.
Planning to get better at planning
Historically, I have been known to be a procrastinator. My earliest procrastination moments date back to the days of school science fair projects and waiting until the last minute to get it done. It’s no wonder that kind of attitude plagues me to this day. However, this year I am making steps to change that.
With so much stuff going on, even the simplest of chores or events can slip my mind. To curb that, I invested in a planner. And I will say it has been a life changer. The old school person in me had to get a physical planner instead of completely relying on my phone. I will say though, the one thing a phone does really well, is having the ability to share calendar events, notes or reminders a lot more seamlessly.
Eliminating Credit Card Debt
For as long as I’ve had credit cards, I have had credit card debt. The highest debt accumulated was somewhere around $20k. This might not seem like a lot to some, but couple that amount with high interest rates and it becomes crippling. Thankfully in the last few years, I have halved my debt, even after regressing over the pandemic.
Thanks to our upcoming tax returns, I can hopefully cut the debt by half or even get rid of it completely within a couple of months. Doing so would lift a huge weight off my shoulders, freeing up a lot of money that can go to other things.
Shaking Up My Career Goals
2022 is when I’ll finally push outside my comfort zone and get a job within IT. I’ve had a degree now for nearly three years with only a handful of interviews to show for it. Meanwhile, my current job does allow me to provide for my family in a lot of ways, but it is not something I would want to do long term. Seeing as I’m only getting older, I need to have a sense of urgency in order to transition into a career I really want.
Consistent Workouts
This goal has been on my list for a while, but I can finally follow through on it. Having my own space to work out is a game changer. I do not have a gym membership and would prefer not to go if I don’t have to. Plus, with time working against me, being able to work out from home is the best solution right now. Additionally, the tools at my disposal have not changed since my last fitness post back in 2019.
Ideally, my plan is to work out at least twice a week with strength training being my main focus. However, I need to incorporate more cardio workouts into my routine. So far, I have been able to hit the 2-day goal multiple times this year. Here’s hoping I can continue that streak.
Grow and build our home
Having our own home is the greatest feeling because we can finally live by our own rules. With this home, we have a blank slate to leave our mark upon and do what makes us happy. Now with Tristan, we want to create an awesome childhood home for him. This goal certainly won’t be easy, but it will be well worth it.
In conclusion, there are a lot of things I want to get done this year, but these goals are the ones that are at the top. By the time the year ends I’ll be giving an update on the goals posted here and see how much progress I will have made.
