In August of 2018 my fiancé and I went to visit John Pennekamp Coral Reef state park with some family members to enjoy what Florida has to offer. The park is located in Key Largo, Florida roughly 55 miles from downtown Miami. Unlike the beaches of Miami Beach, the beaches are not the main attraction of this park. The park features a lot of water activities because it is home to the only living coral reef situated in the continental United States.

However during our trip, my family and I opted out of the underwater activities and instead went with an above water activity, kayaking. John Pennekamp contains nearly 178 nautical miles within its limits and kayaking gave us a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in the surrounding ecosystem. We got to travel across the seagrass beds and into the mangrove swamps in the area. While inside the mangroves we were able to see all kinds of fish and even a couple stingrays resting at the bottom.

If you ever come down to Miami or are looking for some fun water activities then you should look no further than this state park. Feel free to visit their website at http://pennekamppark.com and enjoy my video below!
