First Cruise on Virgin Voyages

For our first cruise together, Jackie and I went on Virgin Voyages, a new company trying to make waves in the industry. As a disclaimer my wife does work at the company, allowing us to enjoy certain benefits on our trip. With that said, our experience was mostly positive and one of the big reasons why is because the cruise is for adults only. This created a nice, chill vibe throughout our trip.

However, this was the first time Jackie and I had been away for more than a few hours from our son. Needless to say it was a little emotional. Thankfully though, we were able to take advantage the onboard WiFi to make “emergency” FaceTime calls back home.

The duration of the trip was 4 nights with two stops, one in Nassau and the other in Bimini. While Nassau left much to be desired, Bimini really elevated the whole trip. Funnily enough, the weather had delayed our Bimini stop by a day. The weather did play a factor on the trip as strong winds caused the boat to rock just a bit too much.

However, while onboard, we enjoyed the other amenities offered on the ship. Starting with our cabin, it was quite comfortable and featured a balcony with a hammock. Which turned out to be very relaxing while out at sea. Also, the room was tech’d out with the ability to control lighting, the TV and curtains all from a tablet. We did have an issue with said tablet at one point, but the IT crew onboard was quick to fix it.

In terms of food, the options were plentiful. A food hall served as a quick service option with a variety of cuisine to choose from. Yet, the Pizza Place (actually the name) was Jackie and I’s favorite option, and it gets even better. Right next to the Pizza Place, is an ice-cream stand called Lick Me Till…Ice Cream. That part of the ship was a slice of food heaven.

When it came to more formal dining, the restaurants were top notch. I would honestly recommend each restaurant that we ate at. They were: The Wake (Breakfast & Dinner), Pink Agave (Dinner), Razzle Dazzle (Breakfast 2x), Gunbae (Dinner), and Extra Virgin (Dinner). While reservations were encouraged, walk-ins were also welcome if you don’t mind waiting a couple extra minutes.

Whenever we were on the ship in between meals, we utilized some of the ship’s services. For instance, I took advantage of the modest basketball court and weight gym. Jackie had a great experience at the salon and we both enjoyed the mini game room that featured an arcade and tabletop games. Sadly, the pool was way too small and mostly crowded, so we did experience that at all.

Our overall experience was made even better thanks to the crew members on board. From the staff that cleaned our cabin to the servers at the restaurants, they really made our trip experience exceptional. So, if you find yourself wanting to get away this summer I can definitely recommend going on this cruise with Virgin.
